The A2 diet is done!

I can’t express to you how excited we are about this!

Subjects have made it through the A2 dosage period and are now being returned to normal diets 🙂
We pushed really hard this last week to get as much data as possible. One of the things we were doing was collecting secondary data to back up the ERG readings. Subjects participated in additional Farnsworth-Munsell tests, Visual Contrast Sensitivity testing, and Snellen testing while wearing a pair of goggles with with infrared goggles for lenses.

The FM tests continue to show the degradation of colour recognition in the blue/green area of the spectrum in subjects. There was no conclusive data from the VCS test. The Snellen test was done in bright daylight conditions, and subjects were able to read down to the 3rd and partial 4th lines of the charts while the control was unable to complete the second line. The control normally has perfect eyesight when not wearing the testing goggles.

We will continue to take readings and work with the secondary data to see how long it takes until the eyesight of the subjects returns to normal. We are expecting 2 weeks.

  1. so, wait… in around two weeks the subjects of the experiment will already have normal vision again? Does that mean the whole experiment is over in around 2 weeks? I sort of thought the period where the subjects had special vision would last longer… i thought that part was the whole point of the experiment… i guess you’ve already gotten all the data you needed from that particular situation? Or am i totally misunderstanding what’s going on…

    1. Well, the subjects can only keep the special vision as long as they are taking the A2 and not eating A1. After we switch back, the proteins will slowly return to their normal states. Not only this, but A2 is _very_ expensive, so while we had 2 weeks of dosing with A2 and then about 2 weeks of altered vision with the A2, that is all that we can afford.
Also, the subjects have been eating no real food for 4 months now. It’s gone above and beyond what you can normally ask a person to do.

We have our data. As a proof of concept, we’ve done what we set out to do. We all wish that it would last longer, but it’s just not something that we can do with the resources available. We hope that after we get our write up complete, it will generate enough interest that we can continue to do cool projects like this.
